Countless
short films, TV segments, and radio programs
are produced by Biola’s 180 Film/TV/Radio
majors. While many of these projects begin
as class assignments, often the most ambitious
and original attempts are made amongst
friends on weekends. The finest examples
are recognized at the annual Biola
Film Festival.
BIOLA
FILMS
Twice a year, the Mass Comm department
offers comprehensive production classes,
MCOM 358, 359, and
452. These are ambitious, bigger budget
productions that utilize a large crew
(usually 20 to 25 students). Through this
9 unit, 11 month educational process,
FTR majors get a sense of the complexity
involved in large scale, multi-week, multi-location
productions
Pre-production
covers script development, budgeting,
casting, and fundraising.
Production
is an intensive three week class offered
during January or June (Interterm or Summer
School). During a series of long days
on-set, students experience the physical,
emotional and spiritual demands of production.
Post-production
covers picture editing, sound design,
and promotion. Problems encountered in
production must be solved in post. Throughout
the arduous process, students learn the
importance of collaboration.
CURRENT
CLASS PROJECTS
We produce a minimum of two completed
films in one year. These films are student
produced and directed and will premiere
in the month of May at the Biola Film
Festival. The following short student
films were a product of the last class
production.
STOCKBOY
is a quirky comedy about a guy trying
to win employee of the month. It was written
by Matt Kitchen and directed by Laura
Walker.
18:23
is a modern day parable dealing with redemption.
Josh Morris is the brain-trust behind
18:23 and he is directing the film through
Los Angeles and Riverside Counties.
SONS
OF WAR is a riveting military
courtroom drama, which explores a peacetime
training maneuver that turned into murder.
Co-written by Ryan Frost and Matt Koppin,
and directed by Matt Koppin.
