Journalism Major
Biola 2004 Graduate
Washington Times Reporter

The Chimes is the student publication of Biola University. Their editorial staff of 12 and reporters who number more than a dozen publish a newspaper every Thursday, excluding holidays, finals, and during Torrey and Mission Conference week.

““We are dedicated to not only covering Biola University, but the world at large that we affect, and affects us, fairly and accurately. Many of us have a passion for the field of journalism, but there are some who just enjoy breaking the news, educating people, and working under deadline.

Ultimately, we seek to glorify God in how we run the newsroom, what we decide to cover, how we cover it, and in the overall presentation of the paper.”

The Chimes Staff

Working for The Chimes is not only an exciting experience, but it helps students gain much-needed journalism experience. Several former staff members have gone onto impressive jobs right out of school.

Gary Emerling (Editor in Chief 2003-2004) landed an internship at the Washington Post and now works there as a general assignment reporter.

Christine De La Cruz (Editor in Chief 2004-2005) brought her skill in editing to Newsday in New York. She was one of six selected from about 300 applicants from across the nation.

Laura Adams (Advertising Manager 2004-2005) affirmed her love of publishing while working for The Chimes. After graduation she became the marketing intern at Warner Faith & Center Street, a division of the Time Warner Book Group.
